The division's first combat action was capturing the French town of Vidouville. The division moved toward Nantes and captured the towns of Angers, Chartres, Rheims, Verdun and Metz while moving across France. It participated in the Battle of the Bulge attacking the southern flank of the German advance. Crossing the Rhine at Oppenheim the division moved to Frankfurt then participated in the encirclement of the Ruhr Pocket before moving through Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria where the division was when hostilities ceased.
